(Japanese below) Sony’s Creative Center, the design division of Sony, collaborated with Sony Music Entertainment to develop ‘Yuru Gakki,’ an instrument designed for everyone to enjoy. Since its debut at Yuru Sports Land 2024 on May 11, 2024, the Hug Drum – a percussion experience that allows players to feel sound through light and vibration- has been experienced by a diverse range of people, regardless of disability or age. It has also been played at various events, including international and Christmas celebrations. The Hug Drum was developed using inclusive design principles, inspired by the voices of an individual with hearing impairments who expressed a desire to enjoy music. Development mentors includes sign language performers Nobuhiko Okazaki and Ryoji Nakagawa, and professional musicians from el tempo, led by Kavka Shishido.
