Today marks the start of Nowruz, or Persian New Year. For 13 days friends and family gather to celebrate revival and renewal with the start of spring.
One of the traditions of Nowruz is the Haft-Sin table. This includes seven symbolic items arranged on top: sabzeh (sprouts), samanu (sweet pudding), senjed (dried oleaster fruit), sir (garlic), sib (apple), somagh (sumac) and serkeh (vinegar).
