Greeley did not have a history of success in this game.
Until now.
The Quakers rode a second-half run to a win over Yorktown in the Section 1 Class B championship game at Murphy Field. It was the first title in program history, the first in eight appearances.
“It’s a moment I’ve been waiting for, the whole team has been waiting for our entire lives,” Greeley midfielder Jameson Blakeslee said. “It’s crazy that it’s happening right now. It kind of feels surreal, what’s going on here. We just knew. We knew we were going to come back here again this year. We knew we were going to win it.
“Freshman year we lost in the quarters. Sophomore year we lost in the semis. Junior year we lost in the final to Yorktown. We know what it’s like to lose. Now we know what it’s like to win.”
