We’re excited every chance we get to partner with our neighbors to improve the health of our community. When MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center and Clinton Baptist Church teamed up for a Senior Health and Wellness Day event, they offered free prostate cancer screenings without requiring insurance information. Efforts like these highlight the importance of providing preventive care to our patients. Prostate cancer disproportionately affects Black and Hispanic men, with diagnosis rates nearly 40% higher and mortality rates almost 80% higher than the national average. Early detection is crucial, as the disease is highly treatable when caught early. Physicians recommend screenings starting at age 40 for Black men or those with a family history of prostate cancer. This initiative marks the third collaboration between MedStar Southern Maryland and Clinton Baptist Church to promote better health in the community.
