#OnThisDay in 1971, Tupac Amaru Shakur was born. The son of Black Panther activist Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s music was deeply shaped by revolutionary ideals and a raw lens on inner city struggle, systemic injustice, and Black identity.
Through albums like Me Against the World and All Eyez on Me, he gave voice to the pain and pride of a generation. His words were poetic, political, and personal, forever changing the face of hip hop.
Despite a controversial life cut short, Tupac made history as the first artist to top the Billboard 200 while incarcerated. MTV named him one of the greatest MCs of all time and his legacy still echoes through culture, music, and resistance.
