In celebration of Juneteenth, the White Sox teamed up with former Sox second baseman turned renowned visual artist Micah Johnson and student-athletes from the organization’s Amateur City Elite (ACE) program to honor Black liberation and uplift the next generation of African American ballplayers.
The group designed custom hat patches—worn by ACE players this holiday weekend—during a creative session held earlier this season on Jackie Robinson Day. This creative partnership is a powerful way to commemorate Juneteenth. It amplifies Black voices, inspires youth, and honors progress and resilience. Through art, storytelling and sport, the project brings deeper meaning to the holiday both on and off the field.
