What does it mean to be a patriot today?
Last Saturday gave us two very different images of patriotism: a military parade and No Kings protests. Both came from a place of love for this country — just expressed in very different ways.
Patriotism isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s not just about wearing a uniform or holding a protest sign — it reflects people’s hopes, fears, and visions for what this country is and what it could become.
For some, it’s about honoring tradition and those who’ve served. For others, it’s about challenging injustice and pushing for change.
Both groups showed up because they care. And both remind us that loving your country doesn’t always look the same. Sometimes it’s about protecting what’s worth keeping. Sometimes it’s about fighting to fix what’s broken.
Recognizing that opens the door to a deeper, more honest conversation about what patriotism really means.
