Two Iowa laws restricting firearm access have survived challenges before the Iowa Supreme Court, but just barely. In its final decisions of the 2024-25 term, the court on Friday, June 27, denied challenges to a law criminalizing carrying weapons while subject to a domestic violence protective order, and another forbidding carrying weapons while possessing illegal drugs or committing other crimes. A 4-3 majority ruled in both decisions, with the dissenting justices in each case contending that the laws violated the rights of the defendants.
