Astronomers: 🤩 The largest and brightest region of star formation in the Local Group of galaxies, which includes the Milky Way and other nearby galaxies, is called 30 Doradus (or Tarantula Nebula). Located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a small neighbor galaxy to the Milky Way, 30 Doradus is often studied to help us understand how stars like the Sun are born and evolve. One of the telescopes used to study this nearby region of space is NASAChandraXray, whose X-ray data was combined with infrared imaging from NASAWebb to create this composite image. Channeling the power of both telescopes, astronomers identified the remains of supernova explosions, which will release star-forming materials that will one day become part of the next generation of stars. Further, they detected a collection of infant-like “protostars,” taking their first breaths and igniting their stellar engines.
