After decades of learning to embrace his truth and finding a community that accepts him, Kaiden Huntrods said this was the first Pride Month that felt like a celebration of "being with my authentic self" since getting top surgery in February.
But Huntrods said he now fears pursuing tasks such as getting a job and an apartment in the wake of Iowa's new law removing civil rights protections for trans Iowans. The law eliminating gender identity as a protected class from the Iowa Civil Rights Act took effect Tuesday, July 1.
Facing the civil rights law change, Huntrods isn't the only LGBTQ Iowan who says they are scared for the future and worried whether it's safe to continue to live in the Hawkeye State.
