Turkish authorities detained three more mayors from the main opposition party on Saturday, as part of a growing legal crackdown that began in Istanbul.⁣ ⁣ The latest detainees were based in southern Türkiye: mayor of the southern city of Adana, Zeydan Karalar, mayor of the resort town of Antalya, Muhittin Bocek, and the mayor of Adiyaman in the southeast, Abdurrahman Tutdere. ⁣ ⁣ According to prosecutors and media reports, the mayors of Adana and Adiyaman were arrested over alleged extortion, along with about eight others.⁣ ⁣ The arrests are linked to a corruption investigation that earlier led to the removal of Istanbul’s opposition mayor, Ekrem Imamoglu, in March. ⁣ ⁣ His jailing sparked mass protests and saw the biggest street unrest in Türkiye since 2013. ⁣ ⁣ Imamoglu, who is considered President Erdogan’s main rival, is the opposition CHP’s candidate for the 2028 presidential election.⁣ ⁣ "In a system where the law bends and sways according to politics, where justice is applied fo...
