The BMW M3 DTM has had two legendary chapters in touring car racing.
It began with the E30-based Group A M3, introduced in 1987 as a homologation special with a high-revving 2.3 L inline-4 producing around 300 hp, achieving iconic status through multiple DTM, European, and world touring car titles, as well as victories at endurance races like the 24 Hours of Nürburgring and Spa.
BMW returned to DTM in 2012 with the E92-based M3 DTM, built on a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis and powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0 L V8 making about 480 hp.
This generation secured 10 race wins, two manufacturer championships (2012–2013), and the 2012 drivers’ title before being succeeded by the M4 DTM.
