The vehicle commonly referred to as Bonnie and Clyde’s original “getaway car” was actually a 1934 Ford Model 40B Deluxe Fordor—a four-door sedan powered by Ford’s then-revolutionary 3.6 L flathead V‑8 engine, which produced about 85 hp.
Stolen from a Kansas driveway in late April 1934, its combination of ample interior space, stylish trim, and impressive speed made it the duo’s getaway car across multiple states.
In late May 1934, the car was stopped in northern Louisiana, and afterward it passed through numerous hands—touring carnivals, fairs, and casinos—before being acquired by a Nevada exhibitor, where it remains on display as a haunting artifact from that era.
