As parents and athletes, amanda_basham & justin_grunewald find the balance of parenthood and everyday endurance training by working together. As they’ve learned through ultrarunning, it’s all about adapting to every situation.
“Being a parent and an athlete is definitely pretty difficult,” says Amanda. “Recovery becomes a lot harder and you kind of just have to work with the time that you have. But I think it makes you a better runner.
“It’s almost guaranteed that a race is not going to go how you plan for it to go. When training was perfect, it was a lot harder to adapt to bad situations. As a parent, when it comes to adapting and changing plans during a race, I’m a lot more calm. I’m able to just go with it.”
