At the Detroit Zoo, excellent animal care means supporting every stage of life — even into the golden years.
Take Kaska, for example. At 15, he’s considered a senior in the wolf world. Since moving to the Zoo in 2015, Kaska has been in expert hands — and as he ages, our team is more committed than ever to giving him everything he needs to remain comfortable in his later years.
Our veterinary team conducts regular health exams, during which they draw blood to monitor overall health and organ function and provide treatments that improve his quality of life. He even receives stem cell therapy to ease inflammation, reduce the chance of infection and keep his joints moving more smoothly.
Even at 15, Kaska’s still shining. His zookeepers call him “the best boy in the world,” adding that he remains devoted to his fellow wolf, Renner.
