What makes a sneaker cool, why haven't designers been able to get it right, and what's changed now?
Sneaker culture is generally focused on athletic endeavors, day to day wear, comfort, and the common man. Designer fashion is usually either focused on unique designs or the appearance extreme luxury. These ideas don't always play together.
Minimal leather sneakers with very nice leather look fancy, but there's nothing comfortable about them, and if you take them out to exercise, you'll get laughed at. The same is doubly true of sneakers with a designer logo; you spent all that money for... what, to look rich at your run club? That's not the culture, you just look tone deaf, and they're worse for running than a good pair of Nikes. anyway
But designer brands are catching onto the flat sneaker thing anyway. They're catching on fast, and even adding to the conversation. Why is that? Are they taking cues from the Margiela GATs? From Wales Bonner Sambas? Or just reacting to the chunky snea...
