Sam Summers heard from Hinterland Music Festival-goers that they weren’t pleased with the heat, the lack of access to water, and the overcrowded feel of the festival grounds in 2024. Temperatures hit highs of 87 degrees on Aug. 2 to 96 degrees on Aug. 4, the final day of the festival, according to the National Weather Service. Fans voiced their frustrations with long lines that formed at water filling stations and complained about the lack of shade on social media. As HinterlandIowa enters its 10th year of spotlighting indie, pop, country, and more acts during the three-day music festival, Summers spent much of the time after the 2024 shows coming up with a plan to address fans’ concerns.
