If you’re only checking total cholesterol for heart health... you’re missing the full picture. 🫀
These are the labs I recommend reviewing every year to truly understand your cardiovascular risk:
🧪 Total Cholesterol – The sum of all cholesterol, but not enough to assess risk on its own.
💥 Triglycerides – A type of fat in the blood; high levels = higher heart disease and insulin resistance risk.
🧬 ApoB – The most predictive marker of heart disease risk. It measures the number of particles that carry cholesterol—not just the amount.
🧨 Lp(a) – A genetic form of cholesterol that increases risk regardless of diet. Ask for this one specifically—it’s rarely included in standard panels.
💪 HDL (“Good” Cholesterol) – Helps remove excess cholesterol from your blood. Higher levels are protective.
🚫 Non-HDL Cholesterol – This includes all the bad cholesterol particles. A stronger predictor of heart disease than total cholesterol alone.
Don’t wait for a diagnosis—be proactive.
