LOBA 2025 Shortlist – Frederik Rüegger “I’m a Stranger in This Country”⁣ ⁣ The English and Irish Traveller communities are facing growing political and social pressure. Their centuries-old nomadic way of life is increasingly restricted by government settlement policies, local bans, rising exclusion, and hate spread online.⁣ ⁣ Since Brexit, nationalism and distrust of minorities have further intensified the situation.⁣ ⁣ Over the course of two years, Frederik Rüegger visited horse fairs in England and Ireland. Some of the last places where Travellers can still openly express their culture.
