Iowa's Republican members of Congress introduced new legislation pushing back on a California animal welfare law that impacts Iowa pork producers' ability to sell their products in America's most populous state.
U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson introduced the "Save our Bacon Act" on Thursday, July 23, along with Iowa's other members of the House, U.S. Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Zach Nunn and Randy Feenstra, and several other lawmakers.
It's the latest effort to nullify Proposition 12, a California law that bans the sale of pork products in California unless the sow from which the butchered pig was born was housed with at least 24 square feet of floor space. Many Iowa pork producers use smaller gestation stalls.
