Chattanooga researchers are taking technology to improve traffic safety -- for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers -- to the streets.
Researchers from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga demonstrated tools Monday that can alert drivers to potential crashes and change traffic lights to help first responders get to calls faster.
The alerts are meant to increase awareness on the road in instances where human attention isn't enough, said Mina Sartipi, founding director of UTC's Center for Urban Informatics and Progress.
"It sees beyond what the human can see," Sartipi said in an interview.
