These three vessels represent the culmination of a community art project inspired by our current exhibition, The Vessel Revisited: Fundamental Forms in Contemporary Ceramics. The wheel-thrown forms and glazing for the vessels were made by Rhiannen Sears, an artist and educator who regularly teaches ceramics classes at the Torggler. After being thrown, the largest of these vessels was collaboratively decorated during our Torggler with a Twist evening program. Each participant received a 1-inch cube of clay and was invited to sculpt a miniature creation of their own design. The addition of these miniature sculptures creates a rich texture that unifies the entire piece. This collaborative process was then repeated on the two smaller vessels by children during our most recent Family Fun Day, adding their own artistic contributions to the project.
