HBCU Alum History Maker - Did you know that Huston-Tillotson University alum, Azie Taylor Morton, was the first and only Black U.S. Treasurer ?! 📍Born in Dale, Texas on February 1, 1936, she stated during a speech, “I was born to a mother who was deaf and could not speak. I do not know who my father is or was. The first job I ever had was in a cotton field.” Morton was appointed as the 36th U.S. Tresurer in 1977 during the President Carter Administration.
