U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley said he was "surprised" and "offended" to see Republican President Donald Trump criticize him on social media as the president works to push more of his judicial nominees through the Senate confirmation process. "Last night, I was surprised to see President Trump on Truth Social go after me and Senate Republicans over what we call the 'blue slip,'" Grassley said during a committee hearing Wednesday, July 30. The blue slip process calls for senators to sign off on U.S. district judge and U.S. attorney nominees from their home states on a blue piece of paper before those nominees can advance. It gives senators the power to block nominees for their home states. Trump, who is currently pushing the Senate to move through a backlog of his judicial confirmations, unleashed on Grassley over social media and urged him to ditch the long-standing practice.
