Pauline Karpidas: The London Collection is coming to #SothebysLondon this September – and we’re counting down by spotlighting Surrealist landmarks around the world. Salvador Dalí, André Breton, and Jean Cocteau were regular visitors to the Sacro Bosco (a.k.a. the Bomarzo Gardens), located an hour north of Rome. Although created in the 16th century, the gardens prefigure Surrealism with their larger-than-life sculptures of mythical creatures, ambiguous symbols, and an atmosphere of disorientation. Join Sotheby’s specialist Lorenzo Rebecchini as he explores the site and delves into its history. That same spirit lives on in Pauline Karpidas: The London Collection, which features masterpieces of Surrealist art and furniture – including works by Dalí – from Karpidas’s unique London home. The collection will be on public view from 8 September, ahead of the auctions on 17 and 18 September.
