The Homestead Park Skatepark in Chapel Hill will close Monday, August 4 to undergo a renovation and redesign. The work is expected to last 3-4 months, with the refurbished skatepark opening in late fall. Included in the redesign will be new steel-reinforced concrete ramps, replacing the old wooden frames. Much of the original layout will remain the same, while other new street and transition elements will be designed to support various skating styles and skill levels. There will also be dedicated areas for beginners and intermediates, as well as new rails, quarter pipes, banks and ledges. “The redesign honors the park’s legacy while ushering in a new era for skaters of all levels,” read a release from the Town of Chapel Hill.
