On this day in 1969: The Gay Liberation Front was founded in New York City, in the immediate aftermath of the Stonewall riots.
Formed just weeks after police raided the Stonewall Inn, the Gay Liberation Front was radical, unapologetic, and determined to fight back.
Unlike earlier organisations that focused on assimilation, the GLF aligned itself with other liberation movements of the time, including civil rights, feminism, and anti-war activism.
Though the GLF was short-lived, dissolving by the early 1970s, its legacy shaped generations of queer activism to come.
