On this day (July 24) in 2011, Phyllis Siegal, 76, and Connie Kopelove, 84, became the first same-sex couple to be legally married in New York. The two women had already been together for 23 years when they married on July 24 2011. They were among 823 same-sex couples selected by lottery to receive marriage license in New York City that day.
