The UN Human Rights Council reviews
#Kyrgyzstan’s record today.
Once Central Asia's democratic beacon, today's Kyrgyzstan is a country where journalists are jailed for doing their jobs.
Behind the crackdown? A vague “incitement” law, which the UN found “has been wielded as a tool of political repression.” Its targets include:
• Ozhobai Shakir, who posted a video critical of Kyrgyz authorities
• Zarina Torokulova, who encouraged a social media user to share two videos online
• 11 journalists affiliated with Temirov LIVE and Ait Ait Deese for their outlets' videos denouncing corruption
Share to tell Kyrgyzstan it’s time to honor its commitments.
