🤔 ARE ALL LINE DRILLS BAD? It’s a question that comes up a lot in grassroots coaching conversations. While “kids standing in queues” is rightly criticised, that doesn't mean every line drill is a write-off! Yes, we want to avoid sessions where children are waiting in line for five minutes just to have one touch of the ball. But with the right setup, some structure, and thoughtful planning, line drills can have a place. The key is how we use them! Here are 5 things to avoid when using line drills: 1️⃣ Long queues – If there are more than five children in a line, it is probably too long. Break it into multiple stations or smaller groups. 2️⃣ Long wait times – Kids should be active, not standing still. Make sure that your session is flowing quickly and children aren't spending extended periods waiting for their go. 3️⃣ Lack of decision-making – If the drill is just “run here, pass there” with no choices or scanning, it is probably not helping much.
