Incoming freshman Alyssa Tate was already concerned about the cost of her University of Pittsburgh education.
But her housing placement in Hampton Inn “fueled the fire” of her financial stress. At $5,135 per semester, the off-campus hotel that will serve as a makeshift dorm this year has some of the priciest housing rates. Ms. Tate had requested to live in one of Pitt’s cheaper dorm options.
She is one of 400 Pitt students who will live in the Hampton Inn or two off-campus apartments this semester as Pitt manages a housing overflow.
