Good Day, Friends, As we prepare to celebrate America’s 250th birthday in 2026, I was honored to join First Spouses from across the country at the 2025 NGA Summer Meeting in Colorado Springs to explore how we can highlight the rich and diverse history of our nation. We heard from Rosie Rios, Chair of America 250, about how each State and Territory is contributing to this once-in-a-generation milestone. I was especially proud to showcase Colorado’s efforts, including initiatives like “Their Story: America 250” and “Light to Unite,” which invite all Americans to participate in honoring our shared past. One of the most inspiring moments for me was getting to welcome Cameron Parker–Colorado’s 2025 Civics Bee Champion–and Sharon McMahon–educator and host of Here’s Where It Gets Interesting–to speak about the importance of civic education.
