🎨 New exhibition alert! “People Make This Place: SFAI Stories” opens this Saturday—celebrating the legacy of the first fine arts college on the West Coast.
This exhibition highlights bold, experimental works by 50+ San Francisco Art Institute alumni and faculty—from artists like Ansel Adams, Joan Brown, Miguel Calderón, Imogen Cunningham, Mike Henderson, Candice Lin, and Carlos Villa, and more.
Plus, dive into a dynamic and quirky range of archival materials drawn from the SFMOMA Library (sfmomalibrary) and the SFAI Archive (sfai_legacy). These encompass ephemera from the founding of the school’s photography department, posters for 1950s Beat-era galleries run by artist alumni, student newspapers, and flyers from the punk and new wave music scenes of the 1970s.
📍 Discover this chapter of Bay Area art history on Floor 2 starting July 26. Get tickets at the link in bio.
