Variety Extended Edition: Emmys Outstanding Comedy Series In this issue, we spotlight Quinta Brunson, whose run with “Abbott Elementary” has made Emmy history. In 2022, she became the first solo Black woman to win for comedy writing; in 2023, she was the first Black actress in over 40 years to win lead comedy actress. This year, she earned her third writing nod for the series — tying the record for the highest number of comedy writing nominations by a Black woman for a single show — and her fourth lead actress nomination. “To make something people love and also make history is a bonus,” she says. Season 5 of “Abbott” premieres Oct. 1, bringing more of what fans love with new surprises — from exploring Janine and Gregory’s fresh romance to expanding Ava’s softer side and finally delving into the mysterious Mr. Johnson’s backstory. Brunson teases “big, major changes” ahead for the faculty, both personally and professionally. Read the full story at the link in bio. (by maxom...
