On a humid August evening, the Bud Tent at the Iowa State Fair pulses with the energy of tradition and reunion. For generations, it has been more than a place to grab a cold beer; it is a living piece of Iowa’s cultural fabric, a crossroads for families, politicians, and East Siders alike.
Since 1947, the Bud Tent has been a fixture at the fair, started by Ed "Doc" Cunningham, who initially set up a 10-foot by 40-foot bingo tent between the Varied Industries Building and the Administration Building in front of the Grandstand, advertising cold beer.
Now it is a starting point for East Side Night and a must-visit location at the northeast corner of the Grand Concourse and East 33rd Street.
