The Palm Bay Police Department has once again partnered with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in efforts to improve the safety of the most vulnerable road users in our community. Florida’s Alert Today/Alive Tomorrow High Visibility Enforcement Program is designed to increase awareness of, and compliance with, traffic laws and regulations that protect the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists on Florida’s roads. According to the National Highway and Traffic Administration (NHTSA) 2019 Traffic Crash Data, Florida ranks 2nd in the nation in pedestrian fatalities where 1 in every 5 traffic fatalities is a pedestrian. Florida also ranks 1st in the nation for bicyclist fatalities whereas 1 in every 20 traffic fatalities. Since we have partnered with FDOT regarding this safety initiative, we have seen a decrease of crashes involving bicyclists and pedestrians.
