A new chapter begins.
On Monday, Yale welcomed its newest students in a pair of ceremonies on Cross Campus: the Opening Assembly for the Yale College Class of 2029 and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences matriculation ceremony.
During the matriculation ceremony, President Maurie McInnis reflected on her own student experience at Yale. And at Opening Assembly, she urged the new undergraduates to lead with empathy and openness:
“In this moment of transition, in the face of uncertainty and instability in the world, be the hand that reaches out first. Be the friendly ear that listens or the soft voice that comforts. Seek out and learn from other perspectives, not just those you arrived with.”
