On Tuesday afternoon, SCV Sheriff deputies were patrolling near a park in Newhall when they encountered a man who was wanted on a warrant for violating the terms of his Post-Release Community Supervision (PRCS). The man, a 46-year-old from Palmdale, was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine and narcotics paraphernalia. PRCS allows eligible individuals to serve part of their sentence in the community under supervision, rather than in custody. It is a privilege, not a right. In this case, the individual had already violated those terms, as indicated by the active warrant, and further compounded the violation by possessing illegal substances. The suspect was arrested on the warrant, and on a felony charge for possession of a controlled substance (with two or more prior convictions) and additional misdemeanor charges for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
