Chute-ing for Mars 🪂🔴
NASA is conducting flight tests to advance supersonic parachute technology for future missions to Mars and beyond. In June, researchers at NASAArmstrong deployed a parachute equipped with flexible sensors that tracked strain across the canopy without disrupting it. The performance data is helping engineers refine computer models and design parachutes that can more reliably and safely deliver science instruments and payloads to the surface of the Red Planet.

The test was part of NASA’s Enhancing Parachutes by Instrumenting the Canopy (EPIC) experiment.
