On his sixth studio album 'Guitar, Mac DeMarco deliberately removed all keyboards to create a purely guitar-driven record. In a recent conversation for Interview Magazine with collaborator Akiko Yano, DeMarco discusses his new stripped-down approach. The Canadian songwriter admits that he deleted keyboards from the opening track "Shining," telling Yano "I went back to 'Shining' and I deleted the keyboard. And then I went, 'Well, now I can call it Guitar!" DeMarco describes guitar as "a very working class instrument" with universal accessibility, representing a return to basics.
