Pauline Karpidas: The London Collection is coming to #SothebysLondon this September – and we’re counting down by spotlighting Surrealist landmarks around the world. André Breton considered Mexico “the most Surrealist country in the world” – and what could be more surreal than finding a mural by Isamu Noguchi in a market in Mexico City? Finished in 1936, ‘Historia de México’ was Noguchi’s first public commission. His mural is one of many painted in the 1930s inside the Mercado Abelardo L. Rodríguez, all created by international artists under Diego Rivera’s supervision. Here, Sotheby’s specialist lulu_sothebysmx takes us through the market to discover the work. That same spirit lives on in Pauline Karpidas: The London Collection, which features masterpieces of Surrealist art and furniture from Karpidas’s London home. The collection will be on public view from 8 September, ahead of the auctions on 17 and 18 September. More at the link in bio.
