Quick thinking by a local resident helped SCV Sheriff's deputies apprehend two catalytic converter thieves early this morning. Around 4:30 a.m., a Saugus man spotted two individuals sawing off the catalytic converter from his neighbor's SUV. He immediately called 911 and provided a detailed description of the suspects’ vehicle and their direction of travel. Using this vital information, deputies tracked the suspects as they attempted to flee through local surface streets, eventually following them into the San Fernando Valley. Deputies coordinated a felony traffic stop and detained the two male occupants. Inside the suspects’ vehicle, deputies discovered multiple power tools commonly used in these type of thefts, as well as two catalytic converters, one of which was identified by the victim as the one taken from his SUV. The suspects were arrested on charges of felony grand theft and misdemeanor charges for possession of burglary tools and possession of drug paraphernalia. #LASD #S...
