🚨History matters.⁠ ⁠ The last time federal troops were sent into Washington, D.C. to “restore order” was over 100 years ago — during the 1919 Red Summer race riots.⁠ ⁠ That summer, white mobs — many of them off-duty soldiers and sailors — stormed D.C. neighborhoods after newspapers spread false stories about Black men. For 4 days, Black Washingtonians fought back fiercely, defending their communities. It wasn’t until President Woodrow Wilson reluctantly deployed federal troops that the violence slowed.⁠ ⁠ 📌 At least 15 people were killed and hundreds injured.⁠ ⁠ Fast forward to today: Donald Trump has once again put troops in the streets of D.C.
