Fans have long called for a solo Doc Hudson prequel to explore his racing prime and struggles with being forgotten. Pixar, however, chose not to recast the role after Paul Newman’s passing, making a solo film unlikely. Instead, Doc’s legacy lives on through flashbacks and McQueen’s memories in Cars 3.
