Most photographers chase one-off shoots. The problem? One-offs pay once and then you start from zero again.
If you want stability, you need retainers.
Here’s the simplest way to think about it:
👉 Figure out your monthly bills. Let’s say you need $4k to live.
👉 Your goal is to cover that number with retainer clients. Every extra shoot after that is pure profit.
👉 Example: You charge $1,000 for a single shoot. If a restaurant commits to 3–6 months, reward that with a discount of 10 to 15%. Now instead of $1,000, it’s $850–$900 locked in every month.
They get predictable content and a better deal. You get predictable income you can actually rely on. Do this with 3–4 restaurants and your bills are covered before new projects even hit your inbox.
