Starting next year, students with a history of school bullying in Korea may find it much harder to get into college.
Under the Ministry of Education’s newly announced “Comprehensive Measures to Eradicate School Violence,” beginning with the 2026 academic year, past school violence records will weigh more heavily in admissions. What was once considered only in certain special admissions will now be applied to regular admissions, essay-based tracks, performance-based tracks, and more.
Currently, 290 universities plan to reflect school violence records in quantitative evaluations such as student transcripts, comprehensive student evaluations, essays, CSAT scores, performances, and achievements. Among them, 71 schools will include it in qualitative assessments, 57 will restrict or disqualify applicants, and 236 will apply a mixed evaluation.
With school violence issues worsening year by year, one can’t help but wonder—when will things finally calm down?
