Three people have died and five people have been injured after protests broke out across Indonesia.
Hundreds of Indonesians protested in Bandung, Indonesia on August 29 over the death of a person hit by a police vehicle in the capital Jakarta a day earlier, triggering calls for police reform in the first major test for President Prabowo Subianto's nearly year-old government.
The civilian, Affan Kurniawan, a motorcycle ride-sharing driver, was hit at the site of violent clashes on August 28 near parliament as police sought to disperse demonstrators protesting about issues including lawmakers' pay and education funding.
President Prabowo ordered in a statement that the circumstances of the motorcycle taxi driver's death be clarified in a ‘transparent’ manner, expressing ‘his deepest condolences’ on behalf of the government.
