In the middle of the South Pacific lies Point Nemo, the most isolated spot on Earth. It sits about 2,700 kilometers from the nearest land, making it the oceanic pole of inaccessibility.
If you were out there, you’d actually be closer to the astronauts orbiting 400 kilometers above you on the International Space Station than to anyone on land.
The name “Nemo” comes from the Latin for “no one,” and it’s fitting, the area is so empty it’s often used as a spacecraft graveyard, where satellites and debris are sent to crash safely into the sea.
