Hundreds of Howard University students packed into Blackburn Ballroom Monday afternoon for the album-release listening event for Teyana Taylor’s new project and short film, “Escape Room.”
The program was titled “Escape the Mecca: A Listening Experience,” and co-sponsored by °1824, the Howard University Undergraduate Student Assembly (UGSA), and the university’s Office of Campus Life.
Taylor recently underwent emergency vocal cord surgery and avoided lengthy remarks, but still took a few moments to express her gratitude for the student support. She was greeted with a standing ovation, and students remained enthusiastic through the experience.
First-year student Christopher Warren shared that his excitement was rooted in long-standing admiration for Taylor’s artistic range.
“It’s not just her music, but her acting skills and all the movies that she’s been in. I watch her all the time, so I’m excited to see her in real life,” Warren said.
