Did you know? Members of Toronto's Chinese community held an annual picnic at the Exhibition grounds in the 1920s and 1930s. Earlier 'Chinese picnics' - often in partnership with downtown churches - were held in city parks as far back as the 1890s, with newspapers providing descriptions of the festivities, which typically included sports and footraces along with a lunch or supper. 1.
